What is Applied Science?
There are currently two different applied science qualifications available at GCSE and whilst they cover similar themes they are different, they are:
Double Award Applied Science (2 GCSE)
Additional Applied Science (1 GCSE)
The double award course is a fully coherent course worth 2 GCSE grades taken as an alternative to one of the suites of GCSE courses that became available in 2006 (e.g. 21st Century Science, Gateway, 360 Science) whereas the additional applied course is a single GCSE that is taken as part of one of these suites.
This is explained more fully in the More Science Leaflet

This site mainly focuses on giving details and support for teachers and students on the Double Award course. Many of the materials here will also be useful for the Additional Applied course.
Changes in 2006
In line with all the GCSE Science qualifications, the Applied Science GCSE courses have also changed from September 2006. As well as the Double GCSE Science course, students now also have an option to take the Core GCSE, followed by an Additional Applied GCSE. more details can be found on the Qualification Introduction page.
